Like A Bull Through The Hall

These are some songs that remind me of people.

New Slang by The Shins- This song reminds me of two people actually, and two separate events.
Alison Rassmussen once told me that listening to this song was like talking to someone who understood what you were trying to say. It was the aural equivalent to the mental barrier that separates most people being broken down. It also soundtracked one of the best nights of my life, which, incidentally, Alison was present for.

I was dating a girl named Anna Liggett, we had been dating for quite a while when for fairly decent reasons, she broke up with me. I was pretty devastated, it being my first real relationship and all. Anyway, before the break up, we had both gotten tickets to go and see The Shins in Salt Lake, we were going to ride down together with a couple friends. I didn't want to pass up the chance to see The Shins, even though the trip down was probably going to be really awkward, which it was. We finally made it to the venue and got inside, the opening band didn't show up, so it was just The Shins, who played a massive, incredible set. Anna couldn't really see over the heads of some people, so I let her stand on my feet to get a better view. I was holding her up when they started playing New Slang. I guess you could have called it our song, because we listened to it a lot together, and both really loved it. Well, I was still very much in love with the girl, and here I was holding her, hearing "our song" live. It would have been perfect if we hadn't been broken up. For some reason, I decided now was the time to tell her I loved her, which I hadn't up until this point. She told me to stop making things harder. Needless to say it wasn't a great experience, even though we eventually got back together.

Needy by The Good Life reminds me Amber Gardner, after it got oddly placed on a mix for a specific usually non-somber (unlike the song) activity ha.

I'll Believe In Anything by Wolf Parade always reminds me of driving through the Mississippi countryside with my cousin Josh. We would play it as loud as we could and yell along to it. Ha I still love doing that. What made this weird is that usually Josh would want to listen to Toby Keith, and I would usually yet at Josh for being a creepy redneck.

Anyway every song I've ever listened to with someone else has some kind of emotional call back when i hear it again. These are just some of the most recent and/or memorable ones.

new slang never gets old. the other night i was playing truth or truth with some kids and one of the questions was if you could only listen to one song the rest of your life what would it be. i of course answered new slang without having to think about it.
